For Level 3 of MAGD7101 Playful Making I took part in the creation of The House of Singularity which was a Puzzle Game where the player has to solve a sequence of puzzles in order to prevent a time loop from activating sending them back to the start of the game.
For this level I was responsible for coming up with the puzzles and the narrative that links them all together. Due to the brief for the level asking for puzzles based on physics and maths as well as being solvable with information found within the game, I was able to focus my time into a small area. Due to the solvable within the game aspect, I decided to keep the puzzles simple in concept so the idea around the puzzle would be more accessible and easier to grasp with limited information. To reach this, I took inspiration from escape rooms that I have completed in the past as well as questions and topics from GCSE physics papers I was able to locate.
While the narrative was not as important, the story was what connected all the puzzles together, so thought was still put in. I began working on the narrative after completing the first draft of the puzzle flowchart, so I had a base to work from.
Unfortunately, due to time constraints, Puzzle 1 and Puzzle 4 were not included in the final product.
I also produced some 2D assets in order to help fill in whiteboards that would be dotted around the environment as well as assets that would provide clues to the player to help solve the puzzles. However, due to time constraints most of the assets went unused.
The assets produced for puzzle 2 would hint towards counting the number of certain beaker types and using them to work out a code to gain access to the next room.
The assets produced for puzzle 3 would give the player the equations and values needed to figure out the correct fuse to obtain in order to repair a speaker. The Warning: Danger sign is meant as an indicator that there is a problem with the system, which should lead to the discovery that the speaker is broken.
The assets produced for puzzle 4 would hint towards needing to balance out a set of scales as well as the correct colour vial that the player needs to obtain to complete the puzzle.
