For Level 2 of MAGD7101 Playful Making I took part in the creation of Loom where I was responsible for the level design. This mainly involved coming up with the flow and layout of the levels as well as the challenges present in the levels. The levels were split into three categories, the first being a forest, the second being mountains and the last being an ice environment. Before creating anything, I read over an article on Celeste's Tilesets and Level Design that was recommended to me.
Due to each level being four sections, I had a few approaches I could take, originally, I was making the sections one at a time but after completing the first level I found that getting a rough layout first then adding the obstacles was better as it allowed me to visualize a path for the player. I was given the order in which to introduce the challenges with the forest being the introduction to jump dashes and bouncy mushrooms, the mountain being crumbling floors and falling boulders and the ice levels being slippery floors and frostbite mechanic.
